...Thanks.

[ why is he asking about paint... kazunari takes a deep breath before answering, hoping he sounds steady. ]

Watercolors are what they sound like - you use water to activate the paint, and when the water dries on the paper, it leaves the paint behind. Oils take a lot longer to dry, because it takes a chemical reaction between the air and the oil that holds the pigments. You have to be careful with both if you don't want the colors to bleed.

[ kazunari will leave him to paint in peace for the most part, focusing on his sketches. they're people, 90% of whom itsuki wouldn't recognize if he catches a glimpse - except, maybe, for kumon, and a sort of plain-looking guy in a hoodie.

eventually he will start to munch on the food or glance over at watch itsuki's working on. is he good at art, yaywon. ]

...Watercolors are usually easier if you're new to painting, as long as you're careful and let the water dry between colors.

It took me months, just to get the basics down. That was with acrylics, though, and there are different techniques for all different styles and materials.

[ he's going to start drawing again - this time, it's itsuki, as he tries to paint. ]

I've been drawing and painting since I was a kid, and I still haven't mastered them all.

[ the smile drops away as he concentrates on the strokes of his pen. ]

Mm... I wouldn't say that. I didn't start drawing until late in elementary school, and I don't think I considered actually making a career of art until middle school or high school... I was more focused on traditional studies before that.

My dad took me to an art museum. I'd never been to one before, but when I saw all the paintings there, it was like my eyes were opening to an entirely new way of seeing the world, one I'd never even realized could exist.

[ it brings a fond smile to his face. ]

I felt like it was all pulling me in. I wanted to know everything about each piece, so I read every card, and I tried to see every color and every stroke in every painting there. [ a soft laugh. ] That's impossible, of course, but I tried.

Inspiration comes in all forms. Like... whatever made you want to try painting sakura trees.

...So it's like Japan, huh? Or maybe it is Japan?

Maybe I should paint something for them, too.

Inazuma... It does sound Japanese.

Art isn't just about skill, though, you know? It's about putting your heart into what you're making, and sharing those feelings with everyone who sees it.
