[ why is he asking about paint... kazunari takes a deep breath before answering, hoping he sounds steady. ]
Watercolors are what they sound like - you use water to activate the paint, and when the water dries on the paper, it leaves the paint behind. Oils take a lot longer to dry, because it takes a chemical reaction between the air and the oil that holds the pigments. You have to be careful with both if you don't want the colors to bleed.
DOES he sound steady? itsuki like 'im worried, but also two people are dead so maybe i should let kazu have this'
also he might know what chemical reactions are, it's 1919 im sure they figured some stuff out.]
Got it, thanks.
[anyway yeah he'll paint something, he'll use oils so they can just stain his clothes. unfortunately this means he'll still be in the art room with kazu]]
[ kazunari will leave him to paint in peace for the most part, focusing on his sketches. they're people, 90% of whom itsuki wouldn't recognize if he catches a glimpse - except, maybe, for kumon, and a sort of plain-looking guy in a hoodie.
eventually he will start to munch on the food or glance over at watch itsuki's working on. is he good at art, yaywon. ]
It took me months, just to get the basics down. That was with acrylics, though, and there are different techniques for all different styles and materials.
[ he's going to start drawing again - this time, it's itsuki, as he tries to paint. ]
I've been drawing and painting since I was a kid, and I still haven't mastered them all.
[ the smile drops away as he concentrates on the strokes of his pen. ]
Mm... I wouldn't say that. I didn't start drawing until late in elementary school, and I don't think I considered actually making a career of art until middle school or high school... I was more focused on traditional studies before that.
My dad took me to an art museum. I'd never been to one before, but when I saw all the paintings there, it was like my eyes were opening to an entirely new way of seeing the world, one I'd never even realized could exist.
[ it brings a fond smile to his face. ]
I felt like it was all pulling me in. I wanted to know everything about each piece, so I read every card, and I tried to see every color and every stroke in every painting there. [ a soft laugh. ] That's impossible, of course, but I tried.
Oh, this is for Steel-san. That place I went to with Jiu-chan and the others... It turned out to be somewhere they recognized. The sakura tree might remind them of their home.
Art isn't just about skill, though, you know? It's about putting your heart into what you're making, and sharing those feelings with everyone who sees it.

The food's here when you're hungry.
[Itsuki will start poking through the art supplies, clearly intent on searching for something,]
There sure is a lot of paint... What's the difference between oils and watercolor?

also yes he is!!! but definitely not at kazu's level... and probably not with oils, he would have had a better time with calligraphy or something.
he's trying to draw a sakura tree.... it's like... well, it's something. kazu may recognize it because he's probably seen sakura trees before.]
...Probably should have used watercolors for this...

Painting is hard... How long did it take you to learn?

Maybe I should paint something for them, too.

[he brightens]
You definitely should. You could draw a much better tree than me.

[he's impressed,]
I wonder if my feelings will get through to Steel-san then.
[he's joking but like what if]
