Itsuki nods because he understands that. he spent the entire morning looking around the place for clues, but at this point... nothing else to do but check on his.... work!
once they're there malik may notice that the mostly gray environment has turned... colorful! well, not that colorful. the benches have been painted over, but the paint looks old and peeling, as if it's been fading for a very long time.
[ he'd deserve it tbh. be the hero you were destined to be, itsuki.
anyway. malik surveys the central node, not sure what to expect. the color, even if it's as rich and vibrant as it should be, is still noticeable. and while he's spent 90% of his time dunking on itsuki or being kind of an asshole to him for no reason, malik is actually... mildly impressed? ]
You should try it. [itsuki is an artist now so he's all about this] It feels pretty calming when you get into it... You can just turn your thoughts off for an hour.
A lot of people take classes or apprenticeships, yeah. But art depends on feelings, right? No one can stop you from feeling something. And who's gonna stop you from drawing or making whatever you like?
[ he looks like he doesn't really want to answer. but: ]
There were certain materials I had to be familiar with due to my family's... traditions. It is pretty exclusive knowledge, so I can't disclose any details.

[ HUH?? ]
It sounds interesting. I'll go-- There's not a lot to do right now, anyway.

Itsuki clicks his tongue when he sees it,]
Damn, it's already disappearing, huh.

Where did you even get paint to do this?
no subject
Ah, from the art room.
[he's still glum over what happened, but he noticeably brightens at being asked this question.]
I wanted to change this place up, so I grabbed a bunch of paint. ...At this rate I'll have to get even more.
[he leans forward to pick at a spot at the bench, frowning as the flakes break apart]
no subject
Did you get the right kind of paint? It doesn't seem very well suited to the elements if it's peeling away already...

[hm]
I felt pretty confident that it'd stick on though. Maybe it looks better like this? Kind of romantic...
[squints]
no subject
[ he... doesn't know about romance so he can't offer any input about that. ]
no subject
That's a good idea. [...] Wanna go check?
no subject
It'd rather have something to do that sit around the apartment... Let's go.

itsuki and malik will go on their date though to the art room!! good thing this isn't a murder location...]
Hm, hm. [he'll rifle through everything he's rifled the day before, but maybe he'll find something new] Have you been here before, Mu-kun?
no subject
[ so, no. ]

he is allowed to be cute exactly once
It wasn't something that was ever allowed before, so I never did it. Doing it now feels like I'm forcing it.
in each thread right....
Well, if you feel that way. [it's fine! he's not cursed with pushiness] How come you weren't allowed to do art before?
:)
[ he says this flatly, simply - just stating a fact. ]

[though he knows there are plenty of families who want their kids to focus on something that will MAKE THEM MONEY, even in 1919]
What did you study? Is it okay if I ask?

I remember -- we talked a little about traditions before.
[it makes more things about malik make sense.]
So your family's big on traditions, huh... It makes sense that the subject's important to you.
no subject
[ important... maybe? he's not too sure but he also doesn't like to question it too much. ]

[generational trauma...]
I say that, but I was never that big of an artist? But I'm thinking about it all the time now.
[wow!!! weird!!]

That's something you like though, isn't it? Something you have the freedom to do.
no subject
That's true. I'm lucky that they have all these supplies here too. Paint's expensive back home.
no subject
I take it you don't go around painting benches back home...
