[ man do you ever think about how he didn’t even get to nap? the gnomes just dug him straight up like that meme of someone lighting the sleeping guy on fire and going “wake up”. let the guy nap. ]
Well, that or I’m damn lucky. Not sure which, honestly.
[ flexes (no) ]
… Mm, not really. I think it probably itched when it was healing, you know? But I had a couple of healing magic friendly witches helping out when the injury first happened so maybe you could say I cheated.
[crow............. did he ever pass his essay tests back home, explain things in more than five sentences, etc
...]
Man, we don't have anything like that back home. [they're ESPers shut up it's different] But the power to heal, huh? ...That must be useful.
[he wonders if someone on the ship had that power. but if they had, then everyone would have known, right? Mikoto's power was too useful for her identity to be kept secret. If another ESPer had the power to heal, then they'd have been in as high of a demand.]
[ he was failing school on purpose yaywon, you know this. ]
Pretty handy, yeah. Healings widespread with the use of arts, but Witch magic just hits different. [ ... ] You don't have anything like that where you're from? If your World employer's looking for lasting peace, healing's something I'd have thought they'd want to have access to.
[Itsuki's quiet for a moment, the expression on his face is somewhat complicated.]
They don't. Or if they do, then they're keeping it to themselves. [...] We've never had a war and we've always been at peace, but a lot of people die from disease and famine, or just common injuries. Most kids don't live past the age of... Well, most of them don't live.
[damn this is depressing, he sinks further down in the water and shrugs]
At least that's how it's like where I'm from. Might be better in the richer part of town.
[natsuhiko pointing a gun at the reset: stop erasing medical advancements we need that shit]
Nah, a bunch of laws passed a few years back, so we're all equal now.
[he snorts]
It's not as bad as it used to be, but... we've got government, rich nobles, commoners. Then you've got the rest -- butchers, undertakers, executioners, prostitutes... Anyone with a job that seems unclean.
[ i see canon routes and ignore them. write my own canon. i also love that you see other girls getting together with other guys in different routes. me, whenever it's an itsuki/mikoto side pair route: good shit. ]
Erebonia had a pretty rigid class system, with the power of the nobility seriously outweighing that of any regular folk. Some were fine, but you had a lot of rich, powerful people abusing their positions and throwing their weight around until something broke.
It fell into civil war about two years ago, started because the nobles were running scared of commoners gaining more power and wanted their status quo back — there’s still rich people and people throwing their weight around, but the regular folk made it pretty clear they’d had enough when the nobles kicked off.
[ he goes very quiet for a moment ]
… A lot of nobles did some really terrible things back then. If nothing, it instigated a pretty widespread shift of power when half of them were being tried for war crimes and couldn’t go back to abusing their people and keeping all their tax money to themselves. I think only one of the four great houses survived with the same leader still running the show…?
Not that all of the other side of the war are perfect either. Erebonia's just a bit fucked. Your World would probably decide it's too much hassle and leave, you know?
[ itsuki's right, it was deserved. crow doesn't have any regrets about that just... y'know. civil war's a helluva thing. ]
[ i fuckin’ read that as “smooch things over” and was like damn itsuki get it. ]
If you could charm Osborne, you’d be everyone’s favourite and simultaneously public enemy number one, I think. Not that I think he’s willing to let himself be stopped at this point.

oh.
huh, right. ]
Mm, not from Thors no.
no subject
...It must have been one hell of an injury. How long did you have to recover for?
[laughs]
no subject
It was pretty bad, yeah. Guess I just have a lot of luck, one way or another. [ … ] Probably around 18 months, if you want an estimate.
no subject
Damn, [whistling seems pretty inappropriate here, still he's vaguely impressed] You're tougher than you look.
[which is... a hard thing to do, considering how jacked Crow is? his lovingly rendered six pack abs?]
Does it still hurt? [that's how some injuries are like, right]
no subject
Well, that or I’m damn lucky. Not sure which, honestly.

Small clan of them, they can use magic. Whereas everyone else uses orbal arts in battle. Similar in concept, different in about everything else.

That sounds very different from Erebonia. For the most part.
...
Except for that last bit. Class system?
no subject
Nah, a bunch of laws passed a few years back, so we're all equal now.

...Pretty much. [he nods,] So it's like that in Erebonia too?

The expression on Itsuki's face is half-resignation and half-contempt. It's familiar to him, in all the ways he wishes it wasn't.]
...Had? Is it still in place? ...Or does it even matter if it is, if they're still rich?

Well. Not officially, but I’m not sure the Emperor’s ever said no to him.

no subject
Ah. So he's like in charge in all but name. Sounds familiar.
